Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Original black-and-white charcoal painting by Dave Hobrecht.

This captivating portrait shows Yoshinobu Yamamoto standing in a ballpark in Japan, tossing a baseball into the air, a nod to his roots and the country where he first became a superstar.

Before arriving in Los Angeles, Yamamoto was the most dominant pitcher in Japan, winning three straight Pacific League pitching Triple Crowns, Sawamura Awards and MVP honors with the Orix Buffaloes from 2021 to 2023, throwing two no-hitters, and helping Japan win the 2023 World Baseball Classic. The Dodgers signed him to a record-setting 12-year contract, and he soon proved worth every bit of it. In the 2025 World Series, he won three games, including Game 6 and then Game 7 the very next night in relief, earning World Series MVP honors as the Dodgers repeated as champions.
