Hobrecht spent much of his youth riding the waves of his hometown Huntington Beach, California, also known as, Surf City USA. Hobrecht started his career as a professional artist as Editorial Cartoonist for Surfer Magazine. This painting was a study for several surf pieces he created for the 2009 surf movie, "Bustin Down the Door.”
