Hobrecht Sports Art offers a fine art giclée edition print, printed on high quality archival canvas with archival ink, based on Dave Hobrecht’s original charcoal painting of all-time great Boston Red Sox legend, baseball Hall of Famer and American war hero, Ted Williams.

Williams came up to the Majors in 1939 and immediately set the American League on notice that he was a hitting force unlike any seen before. In his rookie season with the Boston Red Sox, Williams crushed 31 HRs, drove in 145 RBI and hit .327. An auspicious start to his Hall of Fame career and on his way to be regarded as the greatest hitter of his generation. Williams earned two AL MVPs, two Triple Crowns, and was a 17-time All Star. He had a lifetime batting average of .344 and was the last Major Leaguer to hit .400 when he hit .406 in 1941. Hobrecht’s stark but emotional piece depicts Ted Williams, as a rookie, before he would become the legendary batsman every baseball fan knows as Teddy Ballgame and the Splendid Splinter. Though Williams became a proud, extremely confident and boisterous player, this image shows a 20-year-old rookie who looks nervous, maybe he even scared, as he begins his career.
