Original black-and-white charcoal painting by Dave Hobrecht.
This reflective painting shows Shohei Ohtani from behind, the iconic No. 17 across his back, hands resting on his hips as he gazes out over Angel Stadium. Without ever seeing his face, the viewer shares his view of the ballpark where it all began, inviting a quiet moment of reflection on everything that happened there.
For six seasons from 2018 to 2023, Anaheim was Ohtani’s home. It was on this field that he introduced himself to Major League Baseball and proved the doubters wrong, becoming the first true two-way star of the modern era. At Angel Stadium he struck out the game’s best hitters and launched towering home runs, often in the very same game, on his way to AL Rookie of the Year and two unanimous AL MVP awards. For the fans in Anaheim, those years were a front-row seat to history.
