Dave Hobrecht's original charcoal and pastel painting of a horse race at Churchill Downs, titled "Meal Ticket."
Three horses are separated by just a couple of lengths in the stretch run, with the lead horse appearing to pull away. The piece is painted from a low perspective at track level, with tight cropping and a long panoramic composition that takes in horses, jockeys, track, cheering fans and the grandstand at the home of the Kentucky Derby.
The title comes from the man in the upper left hand corner, who appears to be the only one who won the bet, so the winnings will be his meal ticket that night.
