Dave Hobrecht's original charcoal and pastel painting of surf legend Mark Richards.

The Australian-born Richards, nicknamed MR, is a former world surf champion whose style and personality commanded the attention of the surfing world in the 1970s and early 80s. He re-fashioned the twin-fin surfboard design, was named Surfer Magazine's surfer of the year 3 times, was inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame, and has been featured in dozens of surf films, most notably "Free Ride" in 1977. The painting captures him in his signature spread arm "wounded seagull" posture.

Dave spent much of his youth surfing in his hometown of Huntington Beach, California, and started his career as a professional artist as Editorial Cartoonist for Surfer Magazine.
