Dave Hobrecht's original charcoal and pastel painting, "Tree 2."
Dave spent much of his youth riding the waves of his hometown, Huntington Beach, California, also known as Surf City USA, and started his professional art career as Editorial Cartoonist for Surfer Magazine. While on staff there he created his first painting, "Tree," depicting the world-famous surf spot Kirra.
After seeing his work, Surfers Journal offered Dave a two-page spread in an issue featuring surf art. Shortly after, a woman called to buy the painting, something new to him. He sold his first piece and began painting more. Dave says that if it weren't for "Tree," the others would most likely not have followed.
