In the beautiful and timeless portrait of Roberto Clemente, Hobrecht captures both the humanity and the grit of one of baseball's most beloved figures. In his 18-year career with the Pirates, the Puerto Rican-born Clemente collected 3000 hits, had a lifetime .317 batting average, and earned one NL MVP award, 12 Gold Gloves, and 4 batting titles. Tragically, Clemente was killed in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while on a mission of mercy to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
